[iii] take a look at your feet six feet deep

Why are certain members of the complex so concerned by the movement of their rooms or the machines in the hall? Once you adapt, it should be tolerable.

For those enjoying the games: Realize that there exists, as I discussed with Lord Hades, a "Gambler's Fallacy." That is, your statistical likelihood of profit is (X-Z)/Y, where X=the total number of winning combinations, Y=the total number of possible combinations, and Z=the total number of winning combinations less than AB (where A=the cost of playing and B=the number of plays you have already made). This equation remains constant per play; your statistical likelihood of profit decreases over time and your likelihood of winning a specific spin remains consistent. In this way, they are more likely to cost you money than to gain you any and there is no strategy involved which may rectify this.

For those who were interested, I only have two images of the decorations. I was not allowed to take any within the lab. This is my director's office. This is the tree in the break room; my coworkers were amused by the white tree with red ornaments, though I am not entirely certain why.

The decorations went well. Thank you.

Added later: Meet me in Central Park tonight. I want you to help me guide a soul to peace.

Lord Phonos. Forgive me, I did not know that it was you.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
You are forgiven.

Are you well, Polyxena?

[identity profile] resignedtodeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

As well as I can be. This situation is not quite desirable, but that is beyond my control.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
How have you returned from death?

[identity profile] resignedtodeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
It is the work of Khaos. I am not the only one, or so I have been told, sir.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Then allow me to return you to your rest.

Ahahahha, God I love him.

[identity profile] resignedtodeath.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Lord Hades suggested that I do it myself, but I have been told that those who die here come back.

There is no way to ensure that aside from trying. Nature must be restored.

Allow me to help. There is no reason for any person to experience the darkness without guide.

I do not disagree with you. It is natural. It is what I want. But I have family here, sir, that would never forgive me if we tried such a thing.

The only thing I want more than for my return to rest is my family's happiness. I want to be so selfish as to end this life, but I cannot be. Even if I could, perhaps I am supposed to be here, a further punishment for my past betrayals.

They need not know you agreed to it.

You disrespect my work by being here and I do take offense. Allow me one Slaughter. If you return, we will be at an impasse.

I could not lie to them. They would be upset either way.

I do not mean to offend you, sir. My being here was not of my doing. I was once part of something great and now am nothing but an insignificant mortal with no business sparking the interest of the Titans enough to bring me here. Yet I am here and I am sorry for that.

Will you or will you not allow me to appease Death? If you are confident in what you have heard, you will return and you will be even with Him for now.

Please do not be angry with me, for this would be easy if I did not have attachments here. But if you did kill me, and I did come back, I do not know if I could stand the disappointment. Coming back the first time was bad enough, and if it has offended you, would not the second time offend you worse?

No. The first brought you to a different age. There are new circumstances which must be taken into consideration. If the second fails, then there is no use in continuing to endeavor without another significant change. I am only a tool of Death, not His master. I do not know if He will accept you.

But you understand it is my duty to try. I would prefer to aid you in going peacefully. If you choose to decline, I have no choice but to continue in endeavoring my duty anyway.

If I kill you and you return, there is no reason for anyone to know that we even tried to make things even. You should feel no shame in fate; for that is what your life will be if you escape from Death again. If you do not return, I will inform your family of their loss. They, like all, will adapt.

Death is my fate as much as any other mortals, I am well aware of this and I have accepted it as such long, long ago. There is no shame to be had in death except for how you die. If I should kill myself, that is shameful, if I should beg of you to kill me, is that not shameful as well?

I died a coward the first time, so accepting of my fate so that I could rest instead of live a life of suffering and misery. I want for Elysium, but if I die another shameful death, who is to say that I would return there? Why should I get what I want?

Fate changes each minute, each day. Right now, your fate is Death. If you live again, it will be Life for a time. You are not begging. I am telling you that I will kill you; I only ask that you allow me to do so.

Your wishes, your feelings, and your concerns are irrelevant. Submit to the Killing you know you belong to and you can sort out your emotions later.

I suppose now that it does not matter what I tell him. I am to be murdered again regardless of what I say... They will all hate me even more now, I know it...[deleted;]

You are right. It is not my wishes and thoughts that are to be considered. But there are those of my family. I will not shame them again.

You shame them by not having the courage to do what you must.

Yes. You use them as an excuse to avoid Death.

What a human you have become. Will you bargain with Him next?

They are not an excuse, they are my family.

I should never bargain with death. It is what I want. And if he wants me, so be it. Murder me, I shall not try to stop you. I was yours the first time, I shall be yours again.

Finally, courage.

This evening, child. Do not return home after school or work. Meet me in Central Park. We will return you to Death and see what fate has in store for you.

That is what they called it before, but it never feels that way.

So soon? ...No, but this is better. Goodbyes will make it worse for them. If I am here for but two days, they will not miss me more for it.[deleted;] I am not employed, nor am I currently to be in school. It will make it easier if I... if I do not return. How can I be missed by those who have never known me? There are no suspicions to be had.

Because mortality demands survival. Your mind will always endeavor to justify running from Death, even when it makes no sense.

Precisely. Then you will meet me in Central Park?

...Do you feel that way as well? As a god who suffers mortality as the rest of us?

Yes.
