My self esteem is fine and I am not desperate!

To not give a present to someone just because they live with another would be rude and not in the spirit of the season. And many people would likely feel obligated to give a gift in return had the "Santa" made their identity known, as that is customary and polite. But with the giver unknown, there is no need to reciprocate, and all one must do is enjoy a gift given, especially for them.

And it is not out of desperation or low self-esteem the gifts were given, but out of a sense of joy in giving to others. Were it as you think, then they would have had a need to be acknowledge and put their own name on the gifts.
