[v] broken glass broken hearts

The police are baffled by a series of homicides which suggest a serial killer, but which do not share the same modus operandi or victimology, or indicate any sign of a need for trophies or sexual release. They are calling this potential single killer the New York City Phantom. I suppose I understand their need to sensationalize, even if I believe the name Murder appropriate.

I'm curious. How did they manage to connect the murders when all the usual factors to do so were so different?

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Quantity, specifically on New Year's Eve. Although they are also discussing the option of multiple perpetrators. I trust nothing will come of it.

[identity profile] athena-polias.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
They'll likely change their minds and go with option B. The fact that they felt they might be connected at all is rather amazing. Applause worthy even.

Murder did make a mistake; too many were drunken idiots. Some of the others killed were not credited to the Phantom.

It was New Years Eve. I doubt inebriation of victims is something they will look at too closely.

Do you think you have any cause to worry?

I think you are right.

Not at this time, no.

Good. Though should you require an alibi at any time, you may ask me, if you need to.

Thank you, Goddess.

[identity profile] persephoniacal.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
But mortals have a strange view of evil, sister. I suspect they would rather believe that there is one Evil man or woman, than many. It is considerably easier for them to accept that there a murderer is an exception, rather than the rule.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Since when is Murder equated to evil?

[identity profile] persephoniacal.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mortals value their lives above almost everything. I see it when they come to my throne and beg to be returned. To have that life taken from them by force? Their minds cannot comprehend such a thing.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They forget their place.

[identity profile] athena-polias.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Homicide divisions are geared specifically for investigating murder, though. And they follow what they call profiles when investigating serial murder. For them to have jumped so quickly to one killer, especially when many of the murders were committed on the same night, is surprising.

[identity profile] persephoniacal.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall defer to your wisdom, Sister. I was merely commenting based on my observations of mortals.

[identity profile] athena-polias.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand, and honestly do not disagree. Either way we have one very sharp cop in this city, or a very superstitious one.

[identity profile] muchdelight.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the Phantom was a good guy.

Craaaaazy world.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
And you consider Murder to be bad?

[identity profile] blesseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Murder is said every day on the news. It would not garner attention if they kept it that simple.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I applauded their creativity (metaphorically, of course).

[identity profile] blesseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not understand their need to glamorize everything.

Even through the death of others?

[Filter: Phonos]
A wise decision. It would be wrong for you to waste away in a jail cell.

Yes.

Two episodes. It lack realism, but it has worth as entertainment. It does also give me a better sense of hiding what I do, I admit.

I am inclined to agree.

[identity profile] justfivemore.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only imagine, with a smidgen of hope, that Thanatos would frown at this.

[identity profile] justfivemore.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I can easily understand a mortals Fate and their Time to Die, but senseless murder has always irked me.

[Filter: Phonos]

Mortals killing each other out of pettiness or insanity is one thing, and it is similarly different when you are behind their hand then as you are supposed to be. Now, however, is a different creature entirely. It does not sound like Fate or their Time, it sounds like your boredom and that is... Disgusting. Disappointing. Discouraging. A whole slew of D's.

Did you at least have a motive? Did they harass you or something of a similar sort? The whole thing just seems so unnecessary.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Mortals' murder is senseless.

[Filter: Hypnos]
Honestly, Hypnos, I cannot discern boredom from most other moods. The mortals kill each other without cause; I give them cause. I have killed no one by my hand directly. I become their Murder, but I would not take life of my own unless I knew it to be a contradiction of Fate. It is the reason so many of my Killings were intoxicated people.

[identity profile] justfivemore.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Murder is senseless.

[Filter: Phonos]

... and what cause do you give them? I am glad you have not, yourself, done the deed, at least. We tend to believe we are untouchable here and the mortals stupid, but I cannot help but feel one day one of us will be caught at something.

[identity profile] unbiaseddeath.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
As senseless as Rest or Life.

[Filter: Hypnos]
Respect, honor, and hope, mainly. I will not be caught in this situation; it would be impossible. There is not enough evidence against me.

[Filter: Phonos] and now for a second opinion

[identity profile] search2destroy.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Your uncle Thanatos is kind of a pussy about the violent death thing.

[Filter: Phonos]

[identity profile] search2destroy.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, well, nonviolent death has always been more his domain. I'm not sure what it is about my brothers and mostly being very, very soft.
