[v] broken glass broken hearts

The police are baffled by a series of homicides which suggest a serial killer, but which do not share the same modus operandi or victimology, or indicate any sign of a need for trophies or sexual release. They are calling this potential single killer the New York City Phantom. I suppose I understand their need to sensationalize, even if I believe the name Murder appropriate.

I'm curious. How did they manage to connect the murders when all the usual factors to do so were so different?

Quantity, specifically on New Year's Eve. Although they are also discussing the option of multiple perpetrators. I trust nothing will come of it.

They'll likely change their minds and go with option B. The fact that they felt they might be connected at all is rather amazing. Applause worthy even.

Murder did make a mistake; too many were drunken idiots. Some of the others killed were not credited to the Phantom.

It was New Years Eve. I doubt inebriation of victims is something they will look at too closely.

Do you think you have any cause to worry?

I think you are right.

Not at this time, no.

Good. Though should you require an alibi at any time, you may ask me, if you need to.

Thank you, Goddess.

But mortals have a strange view of evil, sister. I suspect they would rather believe that there is one Evil man or woman, than many. It is considerably easier for them to accept that there a murderer is an exception, rather than the rule.

Since when is Murder equated to evil?

[identity profile] persephoniacal.livejournal.com 2011-01-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mortals value their lives above almost everything. I see it when they come to my throne and beg to be returned. To have that life taken from them by force? Their minds cannot comprehend such a thing.

They forget their place.

Homicide divisions are geared specifically for investigating murder, though. And they follow what they call profiles when investigating serial murder. For them to have jumped so quickly to one killer, especially when many of the murders were committed on the same night, is surprising.

I shall defer to your wisdom, Sister. I was merely commenting based on my observations of mortals.

I understand, and honestly do not disagree. Either way we have one very sharp cop in this city, or a very superstitious one.
